I love Armin Hofmann. A few years ago, I showed some designer friends some of his work, and they were not impressed. They’re not designers anymore. Me, I’m obsessed with the Swiss design of the 60s. (I’m determined to see the future with that work.)
My employer (a college that was founded in ’67) has quite a few Swiss design books from that period. I also discovered a very small, very old Alan Fletcher book. I considered ‘losing’ it, but why deny future designers such a masterpiece?
Hi Tina, how are you I am impressed by your blog and comments. I I feel the same way you feel about Swiss Design, it should be the past present and future. Swiss Design has a big influence in my Education at UIC. Some of our faculty studied in Switzerland. We were exposed and were tought fundamentals of Swiss design as well as others. Other Designers from other schools comment on my design that the swiss influence is evident. I also like Russian Constructivism, de styl and the bauhaus movement. It feels good to hear from another designer who feels the same way I do. Take care and hope to hear from, drop me a comment….
The Swiss school and Paul Rand have been big influences; drawn to their work by some unexplainable reason. Should have switched to Graphic Design from Architecture when I was in school but then I’ve always been late to the game. Perhaps to some the Swiss Style looks arbitrary but it is speaking the language of form that goes beyond the text.
i would like to know if you have the copy right to place Armin Hofmann poster in your site? If so I would like to find out where did you obtain it from this please? I need to cite him in my book but not sure who has the copy rights…

This is good. I studied for three years with Hofmann, and ran my own design business for nearly 30 yrs. I paint full time now, and most of what I learned from Armin, I use in my paintings. When were you there?

I studied with armin and weingart (he did a poster for a photo show of mine). I also became good friends with Dorthee Hofmann,Arnin’s wife but have lost touch with her. Do you have any contact info for her? Thanks in advance, Jack.
