Whoa! Why didn’t I discover iNaturalist sooner? It’s an app that helps you identify the plants and animals around you by connecting with a community of over a million scientists and naturalists. By recording and sharing your observations, you’ll create research quality data for scientists working to better understand and protect nature. iNaturalist is a joint initiative by the California Academy of Sciences and the National Geographic Society.
(Thanks for helping me figure out what mushroom that was, Ninja)
My company is using this as a teambuilding thing to connect our global team during the pandemic, since we can’t all be together for our usual in-person trainings and meetups. It’s fun to see the very different fauna across different climates and locations!

Our kids’ school mentioned it as one of the tools they were using for “citizen science” community observations over the Summer. I checked out the mobile app and was hooked right away. Desktop version has more features, but being able to quickly look something up on the go is great!
