Paper Desk

My desk by Miguel Mestre is a dream come true. The desk’s surface is made of a giant stack of large paper sheets. Sketch, draw and then start new by simply taking off the top sheet.

This minimal cabinet called Manhattan by Cornelia Norgreen is a beauty. Love how they are showcasing its versatility in the above product shot.

Tarah

I am all for furniture that surprises and could very well be considered art. Like this piece called Tarah, by Bina Baitel.

Plywood Rocker-Table 1970

This family rocker flips over to become a picnic table and a bar! Made me chuckle. We totally need a red version of this at Studiomates. Rocker Meetings!

CustomMade.com

CustomMade connects consumers looking for fine custom home furnishings and unique goods with the skilled Makers who create them. On CustomMade you can get anything you want, custom made, just the way you want it. Fantastic idea.

Check out these galleries of book cases, custom beds and tables. Obviously I am not fond of many of the ornate designs, but, it shows that anything is possible.

Nesso Table Lamp

One day I will own a Nesso Table Lamp. It is represented in the MoMA’s collection and made by Artemide.

Ping-Pong Conference Table

A conference table that is beautiful AND works as a ping pong table gets my vote. Well done Poppin!

Clopen

It doesn’t happen often that I gasp when I see something. But the Clopen shelf managed to get exactly that reaction. The floating shelf was designed by Japanese Torafu Architects and uses magnetic keys to open a secret 23 mm thick drawer. A perfect place to hide your valuables.

Hut Pendant Light

The modern Hut Pendant Light is designed and made in Australia from powder-coated steel and acrylic and slots together without screws. A light that makes you look up!

Born in Sweden Mailbox

This Modern Mailbox by Born in Sweden caught my attention while walking the NYIGF today. It also comes in a shorter version.

CYQL

I am currently working the New York International Gift Fair with a Tattly booth (#5633) and today I spotted this interesting rubber ball chair/ottoman called CYQL a few booths down from us.

It is made with recycled bicycle inner tubes with a core that consists of an inflatable ball which gives it a bounce when sitting on it. Fun? Yes!

(wish they had better photos on their site)

Concrete Chair

Couldn’t help but chuckle seeing this Concrete Chair by Stefan Zwicky, clearly a homage to Corbusier’s LC-2.

Endless

The Endless Suspension Lamp by Jason Miller is a beauty. (Wish I could afford it.)

This unusual lamp (yes, really, a lamp) made me look. I give it a thumbs up for originality!

Ahye

This is by far the most stunning children’s bed I have ever seen. It is designed after curves of unhye and danghye, traditional Korean shoes, allowing children to sleep alone feeling as if they are in the warm protection and tender love of their mothers. Hat tip to the designers Hyunjin Seo and Jaekyoung Kim.

Minimalist clothes rack by Danish designer Jakob Jørgensen. I approve.

Kajütenbett

This modular bunk bed called Kajüttenbett made me look. I love multifunctional kids furniture that can adapt to your changing needs. It’s a design by Swiss Roland Jaggi and available over at Refurnished.ch.

Also, for all you grown-ups that like the idea of a minimal bunk bed, check out this one.
