modern step stools

Thumbler_stapelaar

Here’s my latest post over on Nesting, the Cookie Magazine Blog. Giovanni Bauwens pointed me to two of his designs: Stapelaar and Thumbler. There is not much to be found about the products online yet, but we are sure these modern stools will be available for purchase from one of the big kids’ furniture players here in the US in no time. We can’t wait. (For more information contact Giovanni directly.

A Boy Named Sue, and a Theory of Names

Studies showed that children with odd names got worse grades and were less popular than other classmates in elementary school. In college they were more likely to flunk out or become “psychoneurotic.” Prospective bosses spurned their résumés. They were overrepresented among emotionally disturbed children and psychiatric patients.

update:

“Other researchers found that children with unusual names were more likely to have poorer and less educated parents, handicaps that explained their problems in school. Martin Ford and other psychologists reported, after controlling for race and ethnicity, that children with unusual names did as well as others in school.”

a serious toy

OPPS are Global Warning Toys and there are four characters in the group. First is “Bhzt” – which wants to come in at night an unplug all your electronics cause he has a serious electricity addiction. Second is “Spsh” – he is here to add a little green to your home. He is a planter in waiting. Third is “Blug” – he makes you think about your water consumption. Lastly is ” Hunh” – he is the strongest of the group. They claim he can actually stop a car. Just place this under your wheels and bike to work.

Via Jennifer of minor details who I had the pleasure to meet yesterday! In the middle of our lunch conversation I screamed, pointed to her index finger and said: THE TATOO! I completely forgot that she’s the lady with the ingenious moustache tatoo. I posted about it a while back here. (please note: I am NOT into tatoos at all, but this, is fabulous!)

Kids Backpack and Pull-a-long

517lgquvznl_ss400_

How adorable are these Kids Backpack and Pull-a-long? Our toddler friend Theo has one and I am sure Ella would be delighted to be sporting one of these down the street or into a plane, for that matter. The perfect toddler toy bag! The Frog definitely gets my vote. You?

SWINX

Not sure what to think of SWINXS. I can’t imagine I would have loved to take play-directions from a little talking-plastic-thing. But then again, that might just be my type a personality.

Melissa & Doug Deluxe Wooden Pound and Roll

I bought this Melissa & Doug toy called Wooden Pound and Roll and what a hit! (I never really know these days if she’s going to like something or not) She’s been hammering away, very much to our downstairs neighbor’s chagrin, I suppose. (Sorry A and B!) I am in love with Melissa & Doug.
