New Tattly Packaging

Team Tattly is quite excited about today’s launch of our brandnew set packaging. Our 12 sets now come in a visual sleeve, printed on beautiful Mohawk paper. Each set contains 8 Tattly (all made in the US) and retails at $15. The photos are by our amazing photographer Julia Robbs.

I am so incredibly proud of my hardworking team. Without them Tattly would never be what it is today! Please allow me to give my team a virtual-blog-ovation: Yay for Rusty, Bekka, Yoko, Julia, Mary and Jen!

Check out our 12 sets!

Time to ditch the job title?

Mash-up! features stories from people who have “mashed up” their careers and of organizations from a range of industries. Obviously the days of being defined by a single job title are vanishing. The future of business is project-based, rather than role-based, and the people who will thrive in this kind of economy are labeled by Fast Company as “Generation Flux” – adaptable, multi-talented people with “a mind-set that embraces instability, that tolerates – and even enjoys – recalibrating careers, business models and assumptions.”

Watch Ian Sanders, co-author of “Mash-up! talk about the book in this brief video. Just downloaded the Kindle edition, can’t wait to start reading it tonight.

Elegantissima

Elegantissima is the first monograph on Louise Fili‘s work and covers the breadth of her nearly forty-year design career. Featuring case studies showing sketches, references, inspiration, and design process, it’s a must-have for graphic design students and professionals, as well as anyone interested in advertising, food, restaurants, Italy, and books.

It’s a beauty of a book!

Clopen

It doesn’t happen often that I gasp when I see something. But the Clopen shelf managed to get exactly that reaction. The floating shelf was designed by Japanese Torafu Architects and uses magnetic keys to open a secret 23 mm thick drawer. A perfect place to hide your valuables.

Leather Mouse Pad

I admit I am not big on Mouse Pads but this one, by Freshly Picked might convince me otherwise. Susan was so generous to give me one at Alt Summit a few weeks ago and I love it. They’re handmade and come in neon yellow, neon pink/red, neon purple, gold, white and charcoal.

Also, if you have little ones, check out the Freshly Picked Moccasins.

Inbox Pause

With INBOX PAUSE, you can put incoming email messages on hold, so they won’t appear in your Inbox until you are ready for them.

(Haven’t tried it yet, but will!)

Congrats to the Mast Brothers for being the example of how Brooklyn is booming these days.

Exobrain

Exobrain is a Brainstorming tool and interactive web application that lets you visualize your thoughts, finds unique connections between words, and pushes past obvious ideas.

Reminds me of my Visual Thesaurus days when I was the Design Director at Thinkmap.

– Reddit launched reddit Donate. Chosen and embedded by subreddits, the donate button allows reddit communities to raise awareness and channel donations directly to like-minded 501(c)(3) nonprofits. It was created as a side-project from a handful of redditors at Dwolla, and in partnership with Stripe. Reddit Donate does not move, hold, or process funds. All that said, all they want you to do is: Do Good. Yes!

Bubble Backpack

The Bubble Backpack by MadPax makes me want to be a kid again! Ella is starting first grade next week and I tried to convince her that this backpack would make an awesome school bag. Unfortunately she doesn’t agree.

But, it comes in grown-up size as well. Hmm….

Incredibly fascinating slow-motion footage of how a slinky falls when extended by its own weight and then released!

♥ / FontFont

A big thank you to FontFont for sponsoring this week’s RSS Feed.

FontFont is driven by their love for type and typography and their library is home to many of the world’s most popular fonts like FF DIN, FF Meta, FF Dax, FF Scala, FF Kievit and FF Tisa.

One of the newest additions to the library is Travis Kochel’s FF Chartwell a fantastic typeface for creating simple graphs. Driven by the frustration of creating graphs within design applications (primarily Adobe Creative Suite) and inspired by typefaces such as FF Beowolf and FF PicLig, Travis saw an opportunity to take advantage of OpenType technology to simplify the process.

Using OpenType features, simple strings of numbers are automatically transformed into charts. The visualized data remains editable, allowing for hassle-free updates and styling. FF Chartwell for desktop was released back in May and since then they have been working hard to come up with a version suitable for the web. FF Chartwell Web will be released in mid-September, follow FontFont on twitter for updates.

Marvellous

For that marvellous person in your life.

A Publisher

“What is a publisher anymore, anyway? A blog is a magazine. A magazine a blog. A newspaper a WordPress install. A Twitter account a journalist.”

On the Right Path

“…the first part of learning to say NO is learning to accept that offers and opportunities are merely an indication that you’re on the right path- not that you’ve arrived at a final destination you can never find again.”

iTypewriter

iTypewriter might be the perfect (not so serious) segue to get your grandparents to use an iPad. Made me smile. Hat tip off to the inventor, Austin Yang. (yes, I want one)
