True New Yorker

“The true New Yorker secretly believes that people living anywhere else have to be, in some sense, kidding.”
– John Updike

Kippt

My lovely studio-mate Amrit pointed me to Kippt, a new way to collect and discover bookmarks. You can use it just by yourself or collaborate on lists with other users. Bonus: Their search functionality searches within articles as well as titles and user added descriptions, making it an powerful research tool.

Pillow by Joanna Kangan

This hand screen printed cushion by Joanna Kangan is stunning. Totally wish listing it!

OXO Booster Seat

I just randomly stumbled upon this Booster seat by OXO. I have no idea if it is any good, but man, it’s a sweet looking booster seat. Once Tilo (2) is over his highchair, which will be soon, I’ll definitely consider this one. Has anyone tried it? Thoughts?

♥ / Naked Binder

A big thank you to Naked Binder for sponsoring this week’s RSS Feed.

A three ring binder may not be able to save the world, but Naked Binder believes by creating one from recycled material, it can reduce toxins in landfills, keep office and home air cleaner, and preserve our forests and wild spaces. Made in the USA from one piece of 97-100% post consumer waste board means Naked Binder products are the super strong super heroes of office supplies. Two swissmiss thumbs up!

The iPhone Shutter Grip

I rarely schlepp my SLR camera around with me these days. Chasing my 2 year old means carrying as little things as possible, so the iPhone ends up being my main photo camera. (I know, sad statement right there) That’s why I like the idea of the iPhone Shutter Grip. Has anyone tried it?

These Little Notes are the cutest thing I have seen in a while. Fill in the blanks and write a lovely note to a person you care about. Smiles on recipients faces guaranteed.

The Letter Ledger

The Letter Ledger helps you keep track of your ingoing and outgoing correspondence. We are talking analog mail, real letters! Isn’t this refreshingly old-school? I’d say so.

#alleyshrimp

If you live in Milwaukee, you most certainly know what #alleyshrimp is all about. It’s a Twitter hashtag my friends started using a few months back to document “photos of things where they don’t belong.”

The hashtag-loving-group has grown from a close-knit group of colleagues in Mailwaukee’s Third Ward to include dozens of unconnected and international street photographers. (check out the growing collection)

I have contributed and there’s rarely a day that goes by where I don’t spot something on the street and think #ALLEYSHRIMP!

And now, the innocent hashtag movement is turning into a Gallery Night Exhibit. If you live close to Milwaukee, make sure to make it to the Opening tomorrow!

Here’s another Article about the #alleyshrimp phenomenon.

So proud of my friends Bridget, Gretchen and Bradley for pulling this off. Wish I could be there tomorrow! Hat tip from Brooklyn to my Milwaukee posse!

Cross Stitched Forbidden Thoughts

Fuldesign’s interpretation of old-fashioned, morally correct and very Swedish wall-hangings made me laugh. Their patterns address forbidden thoughts and are inspired by everything from hangovers, gay independence, and bad relationships to the Ricki Lake show.

See all of them here.

Gym Hooks

These Hooks by Swedish designer Staffan Holm are simply fantastic! They are sculptural yet practical, the magical combo when it comes to everyday objects. While I’d be afraid my two year old would use them as climbing devices, I find them incredibly charming.

Sombrero Juicer

The Sombrero Juicer by Umbra lets you easily add a splash of citrus to your beverage. Simply place the juicer into the top of your beverage container and quickly juice a lemon or lime right into your drink. Definitely something I can live without but I admit, it made me look.

Smallknot – Invest in a Small Local Business

Smallknot lets you invest in the small businesses in your community in exchange for goods, services, special perks and benefits.

Maybe your favorite coffee shop wants to build a new back patio, or your favorite pizza place needs a new oven. For a lot of local businesses, even very successful ones, projects like these get put on hold or never happen because of a lack of access to capital.

With Smallknot, you can invest in small businesses you love in your neighborhood.

I absolutely love this idea. Smallknot is still small, so why don’t you suggest a business that could use the help of one of their campaigns!

La Shelf Wallhanger

La Shelf Wallhanger. (yes, very similar to the Eames Hang-It-All)

Cloud Shaped Rug

The rug by Pilepoil combines my love for rugs with my love for clouds. It is made in France and perfect for any kids room as it can be washed!

Micuna Ovo High Chair

This High Chair by Micuna is a beauty. (I admit, that our $20 IKEA high chair works perfectly fine, but this one, I would actually enjoy looking at.)

SafeShepherd is a quick and easy way to delete everything from them in a few clicks. it’s free for the first 5 entries you delete, and $59 a year to delete an unlimited amount. However, if you sign up with the code SWISSMISS it’ll be $14.75 a year for life (75% off). Yes to this Paper Rocket Garland.

Coastermatic

Coastermatic is a brand new service that lets you print your Instagram photos onto round sandstone coasters. I just ordered 4 and I am impressed at the ease of picking the images and the well designed check-out process. My favorite is the confirmation screen (above) that shows my 4 picks in a box.

Coastermatic is a side project by Brooklyn-based SVA MFA Interaction Design Students Tom Harman and Tash Wong. I am impressed!
