How To Retinafy Your Website

In this blog post, Thomas Fuchs explains that with retina screens all around us, it’s time to take the plunge and retinafy your website or web app. He then shows the process he uses (for both mobile and desktop) in the form of a flowchart for some more sanity in all of this. Fantastic.

The ‘Busy’ Trap

“Idleness is not just a vacation, an indulgence or a vice; it is as indispensable to the brain as vitamin D is to the body, and deprived of it we suffer a mental affliction as disfiguring as rickets. The space and quiet that idleness provides is a necessary condition for standing back from life and seeing it whole, for making unexpected connections and waiting for the wild summer lightning strikes of inspiration — it is, paradoxically, necessary to getting any work done.”

Zoo by Ionna Vautrin

Zoo is a series of bright, colorful, oversized cuddle toys (or pillows?) by Ionna Vautrin. I am quite amazed at how she was able to reduce the shapes of the toucan, panda bear and the whale. They are quite big, about 39in, making them extra huggable.

Not Knowing

“Being the person that always knows and always has an answer, doesn’t leave a lot of room for learning. And for people to have the energy to teach yourself. The more I work, the closer I get to *not* knowing and to understanding that what matters is the responses not the pre-determined idea.”
