Hold Chair

Malaysia-based designer Poh Liang’s Hold Chair has a seat and back that slide up the backrest frame. This separates the seat from the frame below it. The chair can then be slid onto the table. Why? Well, how often do you vacuum around dining table chair legs? Exactly.

Revolving Self Portrait

A Very Graphic Poster

Barbara deWilde is currently running a Kickstarter campaign that celebrates analog design, inspired by Graphic Design of the 1940s and 50s.

Barbara designed a poster that is made of many rectangular units. Back the project and you’ll get a customized version which you can use as a poster or cut it up and use them as calling cards. (The rectangles are business card size.)

Braun Digital Watch BN0076

The Braun Digital Watch BN0076 is based on the original DW30 that was designed by Dieter Rams and Dietrich Lubs in 1978. Only 3000 units of the DW30 were ever produced and this design hasn’t been available in 30 years. The BN0076 features a stainless steel face, black leather band, and a 12/24 hour digital LCD with light.

A minimal beauty!

Fix Your Communities

An excerpt from a post by Anil Dash:

“Fix your communities. Stop allowing and excusing destructive and pointless conversations to be the fuel for your business. Advertisers, hold sites accountable if your advertising appears next to this hateful stuff. Take accountability for this medium so we can save it from the vilification that it still faces in our culture. Because if your website is full of a**holes, it’s your fault. And if you have the power to fix it and don’t do something about it, you’re one of them.” – Anil Dash

I linked to Anil’s article once before, last year. Worth re-reading.

Cobook | The smart address book for Mac

Last week I sent out a desperate and slightly frustrated tweet about the the most recent Mac OS Address book app. It’s cumbersome to use, and flat out doesn’t work on one of my Macs. I asked about an alternative and @MaxFenton pointed me to Cobook App.

It’s a small widget that lives in your menubar, easily accessible and intuitive to use. It seamlessly syncs with the OS X Address Book, which is what I want, but without having to ever open address book again.

Interesting twist: Cobook also connects to your social network accounts and automatically looks up pictures, companies, phone numbers etc. At this point, I think I like that, but let’s see, over the long run.

Here, try it yourself. Not sure why, but Cobook app is free.

Servus

Servus (latin for servant) is a clothing rack by German designer Florian Saul. It’s a beauty and I would want one if I’d still live by myself. Unfortunately we don’t have room for 4 of them in our apartment. Which makes me think, how cute would it be if there was a smaller version for the kids?

The People’s Pennant

The folks behind The People’s Pennant project are celebrating the good old felt pennant. Crafted by folks who’ve helped shape the tradition since the early 1900s, their pennants are hand-printed and hand-sewn in the U.S.A. Collect the pennants, and show some team spirit for the small things in life.

World’s Largest Rainbow (Birthday) Parade

My color loving studiomate Jessi is putting the dial up to 11 again, by trying to break a world record and have the world’s largest rainbow birthday parade. And you can be part of it! All you need to do is dress head to toe in one color and meet up on April 28 with Jessi and all her colorful friends. The parade, including marching band, will then parade over the Brooklyn Bridge, in chromatical order, of course.

If you can’t be part of it, you can still help make this world record happen by supporting Jessi’s Kickstarter campaign. Your money will help pay for the 20-piece marching band, balloons, cupcakes and all that jazz. I am totally a backer and will be supporting team RED at the parade. What color will you be?

Also, if you haven’t yet, watch Jessi’s CreativeMornings talk and you’ll realize just how incredibly wonderful she is.

(You might remember the photos of her first ever rainbow birthday parade in 2011)
