Hipster Branding

This Tumblr, called Hipster Branding, was today’s highlight in my submission inbox. It’s a cheeky project by Swiss designer Dave Spengler. A reaction to the current design trends that designers seems to be rehashing over and over. I admit, it made me laugh.

work for the right reasons

“Make the client the focal point of your business again. Without clients you will not make money. In fact, you will not exist. Weed out the morally bankrupt people, no matter how much money they make for the firm. And get the culture right again, so people want to work here for the right reasons. People who care only about making money will not sustain this firm — or the trust of its clients — for very much longer.”

The Startup Curve

I spotted this Startup Curve Graphic in Fred Wilson’s latest blog post. The Wiggles of False Hope made me chuckle.

Update: The original drawing of this graph is by Paul Graham. (Thank you Nicolo)

You can’t hit a nail over the internet.

Joe is the owner of 718 Cyclery, an unusual bike shop in Brooklyn. In this beautiful video he talks about why he invites his customers to hang out with him, or even assist, when assembling their custom bikes.

Are you a bike enthusiast? If so, you’re probably going to like the Tattly we launched yesterday: Red Bike by Katie Evans, Let’s Ride by Mike Lowery, Pixel Bike by United Pixelworkers. Yay for spring and bike weather!

The New Fruits

“Men who corrupt, depress or weaken others,
tricksters and those who would regress
or move too slowly,
all become my personal enemies.
I resent whatever diminishes man’s stature,
makes him less wise, less confident, less ready.
I shall never admit that hesitation or suspicion
must accompany wisdom.
This is why I believe the child has
often greater wisdom than the old man.”

Couldn’t help but chuckle. Yes, this is a six pack bag for a bike. Summer is just around the corner, and so are pic nics in the park, right?
