Magnetic Soap Holder

Here’s a minimal way to keep your soap off the sink with the help of magnets. The Magnetic Soap Holder helps you keep it dry and within reach until it’s time to lather up. Press magnet into bar, and it “sticks” to the holder when not in use.

Wipe T-Shirt

This T-Shirt is made for me. A) I love bold stripes B) I keep cleaning my glasses with my shirt, and yes, I know, I shouldn’t do that. One of the Wipe T-Shirt’s stripes is actually a strip of microfiber cloth, the go-to remedy for wiping down dirty, finger-printed glasses and gadgets. YES!

Two Sided Sleep Mask

This two sided sleep mask by Pamela Barsky put a smile on my face.

Garage (aka Storage)

Whenever we go for a ride in the NYC suburbs I get a total kick out of seeing what people store in their garages. There is hardly ever a garage that actually can hold a car. Garages around here *always* end up being storage. We are talking crazy-packed-storage. I was laughing when I saw my daughter’s Fisher Price House Garage used the same way.

(This is a photo I took a year ago and shared on Instragram. Thank you Timehop for reminding me and making me smile.)

Big Letters

Wood type makes my heart beat faster! Check out these giant letter prints by Christie & Caleb, owners and operators of a small traditional letterpress company, located in the sunny South.

They recently were able to access three sets of rare and huge, antique wood type. These particular sets of type cam from a now defunct old print shop in Arkansas, where they were used to print giant Circus billboards in the 1940’s and 50’s!

The Big Letter Prints are printed on 140# cover, which is sturdy enough to lean on a shelf or mantle, or you can personalize your own words or phrases! Kids room, anyone?

The Power of Side Projects and Eccentric Aunts

The Power of Side Projects and Eccentric Aunts is the title of a talk I gave at FOWD New York in November of 2011. The talk is mostly about lessons I want to teach my kids, hoping that one day, they will be at a place in their lives where they are happy with the decisions they’ve made and most of all, love what they do.

If you’re interested in attending and upcoming event by the same folks of FOWD, you might want to look into Future InSights Live happening in Las Vegas in the end of April. They have some mighty fine speakers lined up. If you’re quick, you might be able to take advantage of the early bird special.

Resolutions for Good

My studiomates of TBD just launched a wonderful mini site called Resolutions for Good.

It’s that time of year when we all pledge to eat healthier, *promise* to hit the gym more, and even commit to learning that one thing we always find a way to put off. Personal goals are great, but imagine the impact we’d have if 1,000 or even 10,000 of us dedicated all that fresh start goodwill to making 2012 a great year for someone else.

Resolutions for Good is a campaign to designate 2012 the year of doing good for others.

Whether it’s promising to help your neighbor rake the leaves next fall, volunteering your time to save the whales, or pledging to teach your Mom how to use the “internets” .

Take a moment to dedicate your resolution and send it on to that person.

(Congrats to Kevin and Yoko! Well done!)

Polaboy

Polaboy, a giant lamp-like Polaroid frame, is one of the coolest ideas I have seen in a while. I completely want one for Studiomates.

Polaboys are enlarged Polaroids to a scale of 10:1 (to 88x107cm) and backlit. They are 20 mm thick and use energy-saving LED area lights. The frame is wooden and they are made in Germany. Also good to know: The photographs can be changed at any time and you can even send your custom image.

Polaboy: Art by day, Light by Night.

Jeffrey Veen on Investors

Raising money for your startup is not about the money. It’s about finding people to work with that you like and trust. Someone you wouldn’t hesitate to ask anything, and won’t make you feel stupid when you do. …
If you do go down the VC path, choose wisely. Your investors are one of the most important hiring decisions you’ll make.

Teapot

I just discovered this beauty of a Teapot, designed by Norm Architects over on gessato. The Teapot comes with a built-in tea steeper made of stainless steel and attaches to the lid with a silicon string. When your tea is done brewing, pull the steeper up and secure it to the inside of the lid, creating an easy, and no mess way to brew tea. Lovely.
