I am seriously loving the concept of Roundtable. Read in on smart folks having conversations on topics like Future of Blogging, Entrepreneurship and Startup Funding. Oh, you can apply to become a member and participate if you think you can add value to the conversation.
Not sure who’s behind Roundtable but I am liking the concept.
The Haters Gonna Hate Meme, fairly known in the internet world, is now also available as a Tattly. (We really tried the animated version, still working on it. We promise)
He never fails to make me smile. Hat tip to the Ohio based designers Jen Adrion and Omar Noory.
Rob Walker’s The Unconsumption project which focuses on mindful consumption and creative reuse — has embarked on a really cool side project that they’re calling The Uncollection.
These MUJI gloves come with conductive material interwoven into the thumb and forefinger so you can operate your device without subjecting your bare hands to the cold! YES!
A big thank you to *emera for sponsoring this week’s RSS feed!
Women love their *emera camera bags because they’re tough, yet chic, right down to their little silver feet. These stylish bags hold and protect expensive equipment – DSLR, several lenses, iPad, cords and power supply gear, plus magazines, wallet, and a few more goodies. Oh, and they are customizable. (as shown in this video)
Shoebox, the iPhone App, makes it easy to scan old paper photos and share them with family and friends. It helps you bring albums, scrapbooks, and photo-filled “shoeboxes” out of the closet and into an online, shareable space where they can be organized and shared with family and friends.
Shoebox’s edge detection and perspective correction make sure that the paper photographs you scan turn out beautifully. After scanning, you can quickly crop, straighten, rotate your photo, as well as record the stories behind the photographs by adding captions, dates, and tags.
The quality of camera phones has increased so much that your handy iPhone is now as good as the clunky piece of hardware you have next to your computer, and with none of the wires or drivers. The new iPhone 4S offers a 8 megapixel camera that takes images at 2448×3264 resolution. Using Shoebox to scan a typical 4″x6″ photo produces a DPI of 550 – the same high quality recommended by scanning experts like ScanCafe.
Your photos are saved on your iPhone and on 1000memories where they can be shared for free with friends and family. You can also share via Facebook and Twitter. All photos on 1000memories are backed up and preserved forever through our partnership with the Internet Archive.
This Class Guidelines at my daughter’s kindergarten class made me smile. It not only applies to 5 year olds. (And no, I don’t know what “Magic Six” is, will have to ask my daughter tonight)
This voice recorder made me smile! I would have *loved* one of these as a kid. Hold down the red button to record, press the black button to play back, and dial the knob to adjust the speed/pitch for fun and frivolity. Record time is roughly 30 seconds. Totally wishlisted!
In March of 2010, Jim Denevan and his crew created a large scale artwork on the frozen surface of Lake Baikal, Siberia. The spiral of circles, along a fibonacci curve, grow from an origin of 18″ to several miles in diameter.
The project is currently featured on The Anthropologist and is the subject of an upcoming documentary directed by Meredith Danluck.
The Anthropologist is an online space that supports the work of inspiring individuals, brought to you by the people behind Anthropologie. As a company of artists, Anthropologie celebrates artmakers and their work, but also illuminates the complicated, messy and exhilarating process of creation.
I couldn’t help but chuckle upon discovering Mr Mellow by Sarah Böttger. (It is the *perfect* lamp for my son right now, as he likes to launch *everything* across the room.)
Visionary Tony Fadell who, back in the day, was in charge of the iPod at Apple *just* launched a brand new product called Nest. It’s a incredibly sexy looking thermostat that learns as you use it and, in the end, helps you save money.
10% of all U.S. energy is controlled by thermostats. That’s the equivalent of 1.7 billion barrels of oil per year. But in most homes the thermostat is an unassuming beige box. It doesn’t matter if it’s a manual or complicated programmable thermostat,we do with it what we’ve always done: get up, walk over to it, and change the temperature. Every few hours. Every day. 1,500 times a year.
We still try to save energy, of course. We turn down the thermostat when we can, we don’t set it too high or low. But we’re human. We forget. Until we see our energy bills.
That’s where Nest comes in. Smart. Hat tip off to Tony Fadell and his team. Learn more or Pre-Order.
Freedom on the Fence is a 40 minute documentary about the history of Polish posters and their significance to the social, political and cultural life of Poland. The film examines the period from WWII through the fall of Communism, and captures the paradox of how this unique art form flourished within a Communist regime.
The documentary contains interviews with older and younger generations of poster artists, examples of past and current poster work, historic and current film footage of where and how the poster is viewed, and commentaries from both American and Polish scholars and artists on the significance of the Polish poster as a cultural icon.
Freedom on the Fence has been screened at several film festivals and was shown at the Museum of Modern Art in New York City, as part of an exhibit of Polish posters.
If you’re interested in seeing the movie, you might want to know that Andrea Marks, the producer, is happy to present the film with a lecture at your venue.
