Arthou.se

My lovely studio mate Chesley (of Dossier Studio) and her boyfriend Nathaniel (of Culturegraphic) are packing boxes for their upcoming move to Stockholm. While I am excited for them I am sad to see Chesley say goodbye to swissmiss studio. Boo!

Being total web-ninjas, Chesley and Nathaniel set up a blog (arthou.se) on which they are currently selling lots and lots of stuff. Need an Apple Cinema Display? A BMX Frame? Crutches or a WOK? Head over to their shop.

While Nathaniel will be busy attending HyperIsland, Chesley will be continuing doing webmagic. If you know of a Stockholm based collaborative workspace like our studio612a, send Chesley a note! She’ll be looking to find a desk sometime starting july.

Live in Stockholm and feel like making friends with two awesome Brooklynites? Then hurry and Get in touch with them. Stockholm is one lucky city!

amazing use of space

Porter Fanna Architecture has an impressive 505 sf loft apartment in their portfolio that made me look. They definitely thought of everything to make this small space work. Oh, did we mention they have a little kid? Hidden computer desk, built-ins that also serve as staircase to the loft bed, hidden toy storage, crib in a walk-in closet etc.

Impressive! Check out all the images here.

Wine Barrel Swing

Oh, I wish I would have come across this Retired Wine Barrel Swing two weeks ago when I was researching swings for our little Ella. It is handmade from retired wine staves in Texas.

searching for swiss design destinations

Jenny Lee, a swissmiss reader is about to travel to Switzerland, asked me the following question:

As a designer and avid type fan, I mainly associate Switzerland as the mecca of European design. Are there any places you suggest that are a must for a designer to visit?

Any swiss readers out there with some insider tips?

Cube Necklaces

My studiomate Chesley sported one of these absolutely fab Cube Necklaces the other day. In my head, I instantly tagged it with #wishlist. Her friend makes them and she *just* put together this etsy shop. I will definitely order one. The question is, which one?

Curators and Explainers

“As more governments open their data, journalists lose privileged status as gatekeepers of information – but the need for their work as curators and explainers increases. The more data that’s available in the world, the more essential it is for somebody to make sense of it.”

Gulf Charity Poster

As oil continues to leak in the Gulf of Mexico and the powers that be continue to seem, well, powerless, we all wait impatiently wishing we could do something—anything—to lend a hand. The Heads of State designed the Gulf Charity Poster hoping, with your help, it can make a small impact on the growing devastation. This two color serigraph is an intial run of 200, signed and hand numbered.

They’re donating 50% of the profits from their Oil Drop poster (thats $20 per poster) to Oceana, the largest organization solely focused on protecting the world’s oceans. Oceana has been awarded the exceptional rating of 4 stars by Charity Navigator, which means you can feel good knowing your money is having a direct impact.

A simple idea with stacks of personality, these speech bubble brooches are awesome! Make the statement you want to make, then rub it out and start again. Chalk one up for this emerging young designer from Sydney, Zoe Brand.
