One of my alltime favorite gifts: Fisher Bullet Space Pen. Fun fact: Writes at any angle, underwater, over grease, in extreme temperatures – even upside down
Gift idea from the archives:
Secret Box Book, made from recycled real books which are cleverly hollowed out to make the ideal hiding place for your valuables like jewelry or that half bottle of scotch!
Brilliant!!!
We had an orange one of these Tam Tam Stools growing up and I would love to have a few of these for our studio. So wonderfully retro and simple in its shape. An added bonus: the removable top provides extra storage! The Tam Tam was originally released in 1968 by Henry Massonnet. It achieved cult status after a picture was taken of the iconic Brigitte Bardot seated on a Tam Tam.
The a-pollo cocoa jug made me look. Love the unusual handle!
The Type Director’s Club is hosting its Holiday Party this thursday along with a Silent Auction. Featuring a special presentation by Matthew Richmond and Thomas Romer of the Chopping Block: “It’s not what you sell, it’s what you make.” Entertaining stories of success & fail at The Chopping Block.
Matthew Richmond and Thomas Romer, The Chopping Block (choppingblock.com, chopshopstore.com)
The Chopping Block opened its studio doors in 1996 with one ambition—“World Domination Through Graphic Design.” Today, their full-service graphic design firm uses this principle to inform every aspect of their projects. Whether creating identities, interactive, or print, their work has proven that intuitive, engaging design drives solutions and spans mediums. Yes, it takes years of dominating the world one design at a time to achieve this understanding. But their collaboration with clients, and deep knowledge of technology and the competitive landscape allows them to continue to conquer in an industry that is constantly evolving.

Definitely a fun event, not to miss!
Khoi put together an interesting write-up of the evolution of his wordpress theme Basic Math. I always enjoy seeing the process behind a design.
Check out the final Basic Math Demo. Or buy a copy here.
What began as a never-produced poster idea by Aesthetic Apparatus has propagated itself into a series of 9 mock OPEN/CLOSED signs. Double-sided yet possibly commercially-useless, these signs will relay to passers-by and potential customers that you’re not really into categorizing your availability in such limited definitions like “open” or “closed.” Made me laugh.
Metallic Tyvek Bags. They’re washable and will definitely make heads turn.
I used to make hundreds of Fortunte Tellers as a kid. Totally forgot how to fold them. Thank you internet!
How awesome is this Letterpress Fortune Teller that I found over at A Cup of Jo?

Think you might have swine flu? One thing’s for sure – you’ll need somewhere to blow your nose. Complete with H1N1 embroidered monogram, this hanky makes a perfect gift for the hypochondriacs in your life.
My studiomate Jessica just launched her brand new site: JessicaHische.com. How talented is this lady? Make sure to check out her brandnew store section. Oh my, want want want!
(oh, and by the way, the site was built by studiomates Evan and Cameron of FictiveKin. These guys are gooood!)
Here is a product that got an instant I WANT out of me. How cool would it be to zip down the long hallways in the airport on this Trolley-Scooter from Samsonite and Micro. Two swissmiss thumbs up!
(thank you andrea)
Here’s an event you should *not* miss: The taping of “Design Matters” TV Pilot will take place this coming Friday, Dec. 11. I am so incredibly thrilled for Debbie Millman, the lovely host, that Design Matters will soon be making it to the screen. The show will be directed by Hillman Curtis.
The TV show is conceived as a design version of “Inside the Actor’s Studio,” and Millman’s first two interview subjects will be Milton Glaser (the designer who created the “I <3 NY” logo) and Stefan Sagmeister (the only graphic designer to have won a Grammy award and a design award from the Cooper Hewitt National Design Museum). After each interview, an audience Q&A will take place.
The pilot taping is free and open to the public—seats will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis.

I am *not* going to miss this, more info here on facebook. See you there?
I am being asked a lot what my alltime favorite kids toy is and my answer is always: Magna-Tiles. We have two sets and play with it *every single day*. And yes, when I say ‘we’, I mean ‘we’. G and I often times start building our own structures after Ella’s gone to bed. Just last week my brother-in-law was visiting and he built completely new structures that we hadn’t thought of yet. (Of course, he’s an architect by trade!)
Yes, they are on the expensive side but are worth EVERY single penny. We have played with our sets for over 1.5 year now and are still not tired of it.
If you need a gift for a little one, Magna-Tiles is the way to go. Trust me.
These wall decorations called Wally made me smile. That pickles jar would be so appropriate right now, given my 7 month bump. And who wouldn’t like an elk moose or security camera on their walls?
Here are 3 lovely new minimal prints by Rachel E. Foster that I just discovered in the Keep Calm Gallery:

IKEA UK has released a free iPhone catalogue app that lets you browse the latest catalogue on your phone. The 35mb (!!!) app lets you zoom in on pictures and flip through the pages so you can get your fix on the go.
