Look at me, posting about Texting Gloves on a sweltering hot summer day. (You have to give these guys credit for putting ‘texting’ into this product name. Smart.)

The Fresh Label
Johnny, over at Spoon & Tamago is currently doing a preview of the Good Design Awards (happening at the end of the month) and pointed me to one of his personal favorites so far; the Fresh Label.
Design studio TO-GENKYO proposes a new method of tracking a foods expiration date by using a universally recognizable visual. Over the last year or so Japan had been struck by a number of scandals involving food companies tampering with expiration dates. The new design keeps people honest by changing colors based on the level of ammonia the food emits as it ages. After it has passed its expiration date the barcode is no longer readable, making it impossible to sell.
Coffee Cup Speed Drawing
Boey draws un coffee cups. See his collection over at flickr. And here’s a time lapse of him sketching on a cup. Also, check out his journal, pretty funny.

Pig Lamp
Now this made me smile: Pig Lamp by Ariel Rojo. Inspired by the concept of saving, the designer created this ceramic lamp shaped like a traditional savings bank with an energy-saving stay-cool bulb for the curly tail—a timely message, playfully presented.
Arrow Wall Hook
How fantastic is this Arrow Wall Hook by Gustav Hallen? It holds items on each side, and the top bends down to create a third hook. While not in use it serves as a bold graphical decoration.
A typographic map of Paris
After six months of research and a seven day trip to see the city in person, Mark Andrew Webber has spent the past two months carving an enormous linocut, typographic map of Paris. Beautiful!

Funky Food Galleryj
While this Funky Food Gallery is highly amusing, I am not sure it would do the trick and coax our little one into eating. (I particularly love the space shuttle and sheep. Ha!)
ceramic polaroid
A ghost of cameras past: A chunky yet ethereal representation of the classic polaroid. Honor its humble form, use it as a paperweight or give it to your favorite photographer as a trophy. Ceramic Polaroid.
Art&Copy
(ugh, why don’t you let me embedd your teaser?)
ART & COPY is a powerful new film about advertising and inspiration. Directed by Doug Pray (SURFWISE, SCRATCH, HYPE!), it reveals the work and wisdom of some of the most influential advertising creatives of our time — people who’ve profoundly impacted our culture, yet are virtually unknown outside their industry. Exploding forth from advertising’s “creative revolution” of the 1960s, these artists and writers all brought a surprisingly rebellious spirit to their work in a business more often associated with mediocrity or manipulation: George Lois, Mary Wells, Dan Wieden, Lee Clow, Hal Riney and others featured in ART & COPY were responsible for “Just Do It,” “I Love NY,” “Where’s the Beef?,” “Got Milk,” “Think Different,” and brilliant campaigns for everything from cars to presidents. They managed to grab the attention of millions and truly move them. Visually interwoven with their stories, TV satellites are launched, billboards are erected, and the social and cultural impact of their ads are brought to light in this dynamic exploration of art, commerce, and human emotion.

Pick Up Wood
Now here’s a submission that put an instant smile on my face. Pick up Wood by Belgium based Alain Berteau is a simple hanger hook that requires you to take a walk in the woods and pick up a fallen branch to complete the object and turn it into a hanger.
The project was designed for the brussels based non-profit organisation Les Petits Riens, which provides social reinsertion via the collecting and selling of second-hand clothes and used furniture.
Personas Online Data Portraits
Aaron Zinman’s Personas uses sophisticated natural language processing and the Internet to create a data portrait of one’s aggregated online identity. In short, Personas shows you how the Internet sees you.
Wheee! This is fascinating! So, now that I have my personal personas profile in front of me i am wondering how that big ‘religious’ part came to be. As well the big yellow box called ‘accident’. Hmmm…
Get your own profile: Personas Project.
