On Clients and Saying ‘No’

Instead of seeking clients we will selectively and respectfully pursue ‘perfect fits’ – those targeted organizations that we can best help. We will say ‘no’ early and often, weeding out those that would be better served by others and those that cannot afford us. By using ‘no’ we will give power and credibility to our ‘yes’.

Framed Objects

Framed Book

I love this idea by the. to prominently display/frame the book one is currently reading. (I would have no problem doing. I admit, I often times buy a book because I love the cover. Same goes for vine wine.)

CreativeMornings, June 5th, with Khoi Vinh

Sorry, we're full
I don’t think I can be any more excited about the announcement of an upcoming CreativeMornings! (A tad bit more and I’d burst.)

Our speaker at the CreativeMornings on June 5th, 2009, is much respected Khoi Vinh, Design Director of the NYTimes and force behind Subtraction.com. The Title of Khoi’s talk: Everything I Know About Design I Learned in the 90s. It will be a look at how one designer’s early attitudes and assumptions about how design works have weathered the past fifteen years, for better or worse.

Interested in attending? Make sure to r.s.v.p via email quickly as we usually fill up within a few hours. Please tell us your name and what industry you’re in. CreativeMornings start at 8.30am, end at 10am and are FREE of charge.

I am very sorry but we have already reached full capacity. This was a new record, we filled up within an hour. Khoi, you’re a star!

A big thank you to Marc and Sara Schiller of Electric Artists for hosting yet another CreativeMornings event at MEET, an impressive storefront apartment-like space in the middle of Soho. MEET is a dedicated space in New York where creative and business executives can gather to re-imageine a business, re-invent a product or pitch potential clients. Check out the images on their site, the space is fantastic!

NEW: Follow CreativeMornings on twitter!

Check out pictures of previous CreativeMornings over at Flickr.

Breakfast will be generously sponsored by MailChimp, a fantastic service that makes it easy to send email newsletters to your customers, manage your subscriber lists, and track campaign performance. Yay!

wee see

Part art installation, part pacifier, Wee See is a collection of black-and-white animations built from basic shapes to delight both child and parent. As vision develops slowly over the first months of life, Wee See provides surfaces of bold, well-defined artwork to engage your baby’s curious mind and bring the screen to vibrant life.

I was lucky enough to get my hands on these brand-new DVD’s and I am *impressed*. The Wee See videos are a truly artful and minimalist experience. Rolyn Barthelman and his team did an amazing job. The site, the packaging and the two videos are designed with *such* attention to detail. Hat tip!

This is a fantastic gift for (designy) new parents! Here’s a little peek at collection number 1:

swissmiss = 4

balloon

It’s a big day over here at swissmiss. Four years ago, today, I started this blog with a quote by Herman Hesse. Little did I know that blogging would become such a big part of my life and that I would meet such talented, fabulous people from all around the world because of it.

Thank you, my much appreciated readers. Thank you Internet! Time to put my party hat on! And as my friend BB would say: “Happy my (blog) birthday to you”!

Oh, and by the way, Happy Birthday WordPress!

Doodle

Doodle is an app that is wildly popular in Switzerland, according to my sister. It helps you schedule an event, such as a board meeting, business lunch, conference call, family reunion, movie night, or any other group event. Or it helps you make a choice among movies, menus, travel destinations, or among any other selection. Smart!

Work and Trade

From May 22-May 29, William Lamson will work in a NYC gallery making drawings with a device that consists of a ceiling fan, string and a marker. Visitors are invited to look through a flat file archive of this work and offer him something in exchange for a drawing of their choice. The traded item will become part of a collection of unique objects on display in the gallery, and anything that is not already in the collection may be offered as a trade.

Wonderful!

Charging Garden

I saw this Charging Station at Kikkerland’s ICFF Booth. It put a smile on my face. If I had this at home and I had visitors, I’d say: “Welcome to my gadget garden!”
