Two nights ago, we were part of an AIGA/NY organized Open Studio Tour here in DUMBO. We took the opportunity to break in our brandnew Ideapaint wall and asked everyone that stopped by to write/draw something on our giant Ideapaint (dry-erase) wall.
Ideapaint transforms any smooth surface into a dry-erase writing surface. I can’t remember anything that had me as giddy and excited about like this big giant whiteboard wall. I can’t wait to have a brainstorm meeting where everyon hovers around and draws and sketches! Oh, the possiblities!
Thanks for everyone that stopped by and helped us break in our wall! Check out the pictures of the event!
Ever wanted to post a photo on Flickr and announce it right away on Twitter? That what’s flick.to.twitt allows you to do!

Tyler Littlejohn Johnson and Flavia Sanches, of Nomadink Studio, did a research project about Asian design, spending 2 months in China and Thailand, then presenting it to 5,000 designers at TMDG congress in Argentina. Made me look.
I am excited to announce our upcoming CreativeMornings with Michael Surtees of DesignNotes fame. On friday May 8, Michael will talk on the topic of agile design, which is based on the process of incremental improvements in the design (what you start with and finish with tend to evolve over time)—typically it’s been used in software applications but is now starting to find it’s way into websites. Michael has ideas on how normal graphic designers or agency people might be able to use Agile Design in their process.
Interested in attending? Make sure to r.s.v.p via email quickly as we usually fill up within a few hours. Please tell us your name and what industry you’re in. (We will later on send you a confirmation email with all the necessary details for the event.) I am sorry but we’ve reached full capacity. CreativeMornings start at 8.30am and end at 10am. This event will be hosted at Daylife.
NEW: Follow CreativeMornings on twitter!
Breakfast will be generously sponsored by Core Industries, a DUMBO based strategic interactive, marketing, design and development company. Yay!
The whole creative suite for only $80. Its a *suite* deal.

The phone is all about expediency. Both people on the call have a job to do and each of them is looking to get through the call and move on to something else.
A cup of coffee is an opportunity to meet someone, talk about a few other things, make a friend or a business acquaintance. Done right, the face to face reference check is a lot more than a reference check. It’s a way to grow your network and your business. And it’s also the best way to find out exactly what you need to know about a person you want to hire, invest in, or otherwise go into business with.

Your food can’t go everywhere exposed to the elements; it needs packaging. Unfortunately, that packaging often takes massive amounts of energy to create, and much of it doesn’t properly decompose. CHOW rated some common carriers on a scale from 1 (bad) to 5 (good).

I just got my hand on James Yang’s Children’s Book called Puzzlehead. The book takes you on the journey of Puzzlehead looking far and wide for a spot that he fits in. He is eventually led to conclusion that his perfect place is wherever he can be with his friends. I think we might have a new favorite at casa swissmiss.
As we are already on the topic of BirdsAndBees today, I would also like to mention a board book I received that is (ironically enough) totally not suitable for kids: Furverts. Photographs are by Michael Cogliantry and the design is by his lovely wife Jen Cogliantry. (The Cogliantry’s rock. Unfortunately they moved their back to Brooklyn and now call Portland Oregon their home, but that’s another story.)
ShapeMaker is a set of 25 colourful, geometric design, hand printed, environmentally friendly, rubber wood blocks that can be excitingly arranged to create a menagerie of thousands of surprising creatures and tons of sparkling, imaginative, engaging images that guarantee to delight children from 4 yrs and upwards.
My studio mate Jennifer is having an awesome vintage kids furniture sale today and tomorrow. She is selling her private collection of modern and vintage children’s furniture and gear. The two-day sale will be held at our studio at 10 Jay St., #612A, Brooklyn, 12-5pm.
Are you not allowed to use Twitter at work? Wouldn’t it be awesome if there were a Twitter tool that looked just like Excel? Welcome to Spreadtweet by Elliot Kember.
