Stop Framing and Start Fotoflōting

fotoflot-mounting-system

Fotoflōt, a new and unique way to display photos. fotoflōt displays prints without glass, eliminating reflections and glare. It has a magnetic mounting system that lets you change images in seconds and floats the photo off the wall or desk, subtly emphasizing the image.

I *love* this! This will let me interchange what’s on the wall much easier than with frames. What a briliant concept! (gasp for air)

And the first thing I will fotoflōt (will this become a verb like google?) is our ugly circuit breaker box at home, just like Kerri Ellis did.

Tropicana Reverts back to Old Packaging. Wow!

3130048984_ae59321451

The PepsiCo Americas Beverages division of PepsiCo is bowing to public demand and scrapping the changes made to a flagship product, Tropicana Pure Premium orange juice. Redesigned packaging that was introduced in early January is being discontinued, executives plan to announce on Monday, and the previous version will be brought back in the next month.

Also returning will be the longtime Tropicana brand symbol, an orange from which a straw protrudes. The symbol, meant to evoke fresh taste, had been supplanted on the new packages by a glass of orange juice.

A Simple Typographic Pledge

promise_poster

Does someone in your studio use one of these typefaces? Does it make your typographically sensitive skin crawl? You can help. Order this poster and make your hack designing colleague take this pledge and sign it.

Jeff Matz Designer/Principal of Lure Design created this last week for a screen printing presentation at “Pull + Ink” Art Center of South Florida, South Beach for AIGA Miami. They were such a big hit – they decided to put them up for sale!

20 Greatest questions of all time

Why do identical twins have different fingerprints?

Although identical twins share the same DNA, they don’t look identical cell-for-cell, because not every aspect of your physical appearance is rigidly determined by your genes. Fingerprints are formed semi-randomly as the foetus develops in the womb andare affected by such things as chance fluctuations of hormone levels. Similarly, the pattern of freckles and moles on the skin is caused by random mutations and will vary between identical twins.

Agency vs freelancer – your take

Last month David Airey asked what the difference is between hiring an agency and hiring a freelance graphic designer. The discussion that followed was great, and he has picked out a few of the answers. Read them here.

(I do think though that David uses the wrong term here, it should not talk about freelance graphic designers but independent consultants.)
